Why use LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® to create your strategic narrative?

At Broom & Moon, we help teams uncover who they are, who they serve, why they exist and what direction they want to take. One particularly powerful way we do that is through facilitated LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® workshops.

What is LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®?

LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is a way for teams to think creatively, achieve alignment on issues, and solve problems together.

It works by getting people to express their ideas through models built from LEGO®. Like having a 3D printer for the mind, LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® offers a powerful way for people to visualise and concretise their thinking.

That creates the foundation for shared understanding of — and agreement on — your strategic narrative.

Some of the world’s biggest brands have used LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® to boost their performance, including:

What happens during a LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® session?

During a LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® workshop, you’ll be invited to explore, through LEGO®, the question or challenge you’re facing as a team.

At each stage, we’ll also invite you to reflect, individually and as a group, on the models you have built.

We’ll do it through questions like:

  • What do the models reveal?

  • What stands out?

  • What repeated themes do we see here?

  • What’s missing?

It starts with each member of the group expressing their personal perspective by building their own LEGO® model or models. Then, your group will be asked to collaborate on a model that captures the group’s shared view of the issue you’re exploring.

Why use LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®?

LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is a lively and dynamic way for people to share ideas and reach agreement on issues that matter to the team.
It uses the power of play to transform how you and your team view and talk about a situation, challenge or problem.

Greater engagement

With LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® people are far more energised than in a traditional meeting.

Benefits of LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® include:

Increased ownership and alignment

Contributing to the building of a shared model that the group agrees on encourages people to own the ideas it expresses.

Lasting impact

LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® makes ideas more memorable because people have used their eyes, ears and hands in the creation of their shared story.

Deeper thinking

Reflection is a key part of any LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® session, which encourages deep thinking about the issue at hand.

A diversity of perspectives

A LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® workshop gives a voice to everyone — not just the most senior or most extrovert members of the group.

Clarity from complexity

LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® gives people a way to articulate complex or abstract ideas in an easy-to-grasp concrete form.

How LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® can help your team
